Problem
Barriers for WEIRA’s Users:
-
Outdated user interface (UI) with minimal visual appeal.
-
Inefficient site structure, making it difficult for users to navigate.
-
Limited storytelling and engagement tools to convey WEIRA’s mission.
Additionally, WEIRA's website was rejected for Google Ad Grants due to missing features such as clear calls to action (CTAs), mobile responsiveness, and other barriers mentioned above.
Solution
Fixing Users' Pain Points:
-
Targeted Content: Develop tailored information and clear pathways for WEIRA’s three main audiences: (1) donors, (2) clients, and (3) volunteers, ensuring each group easily finds what they need.
-
Improved Navigation: Create a clear and intuitive structure that guides users to essential information effortlessly, enhancing the overall experience.
-
Accessibility Standards: Follow modern accessibility requirements, ensuring inclusivity for all users.
-
Fresh, Clean Design: Adopt a modern design approach to create a visually appealing and functional site.
Learning
Throughout this project, I made significant strides in several areas. I improved my Figma skills, becoming more proficient in creating detailed wireframes and prototypes. I also gained basic HTML knowledge, which allowed me to better understand web development processes.
Additionally, I explored widgets to integrate interactive features, improving user experience and engagement. As part of the redesign, I further improved my skills in the Wix platform, learning how to implement responsive and dynamic websites with ease.
A key achievement was securing Google Ad Grants for WEIRA, a process that was entirely new to me.
Design Process
-
Discovery & Research: (1) met with the client and gathered data from the marketing team to understand the target audience and project goals. (2) conducted competitor analysis to identify industry trends, strengths, and opportunities for differentiation.
-
User Analysis & Segmentation: analyzed user segments and identified key needs to tailor the design to different audience groups.
-
Ideation & Sketching: created initial sketches and design concepts based on research, competitor insights, and user analysis.
-
Feedback & Iteration: presented concepts to the CEO, collected feedback, and refined the design accordingly.
-
Prototyping & Final Approval: developed a high-fidelity prototype and secured final approval for the design.
-
Implementation: implemented by me the approved design in the Wix platform, ensuring responsiveness and functionality. Handled the entire implementation process on my own.
Next Step
-
Monitor & Analyze Performance: track key metrics like user engagement, traffic, and conversions, assess the impact of Google Ad Grants by tracking traffic and ad engagement.
-
Gather User Feedback: send surveys to key audiences (donors, clients, volunteers) for usability feedback.
-
Iterate & Improve: refine features based on data and feedback, such as updating content or enhancing CTAs, align the website with evolving organizational goals and industry best practices.
